The Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) was developed in 1984. This committee provides advice and guidance to the Chesapeake Bay Executive Council on the programs and policies that strive to restore and protect the rivers of the Bay. The CAC serves as a non-governmental perspective on the Bay cleanup effort.
Residents of the Bay play an important role in increasing awareness and campaigning for improved management practices within the Bay. Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay is a group that focuses on resident participation in Bay restoration activities.
